Edward Murphy is the managing attorney and lead counsel for The Murphy Law Group, P.C., and is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. He has handled over 4,000 divorce, family law and criminal law cases over the last 19 years. He is a Peoria native who returned home after law school and later joined James D. Reynolds to start the firm in 1988. <br><br> Mr. Murphy is a graduate of Northern Illinois University College of Law, where he graduated third in his class. He received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1987. He received his undergraduate Bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa, and he completed his Associates degree at Illinois Central College. Mr. Murphy is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and Peoria County Bar Association. He serves on local family law committees and is a member of the family law section at both the state and national level. He is also a certified family law mediator, able to mediate and arbitrate all family law matters involved in dissolution of marriage actions. <br><br> G. Edward Murphy has a history of success in all that he has undertaken. He was a successful student-athlete, excelling in sports as an All-State baseball player and golfer in high school, and pitching in baseball for the University of Iowa in college. In law school, he continued this level of success by graduating 3rd in his entire class, writing as an Editor for the Law Review, and competing in the Moot Court competition. This history of accomplishment in both academic and athletic arenas prepared him well for becoming a trial attorney. For the past 19 years, Mr. Murphy has continued to excel in all areas of family law and in mediation. He was voted one of "Illinois Law and Leading Attorneys" in both Family Law and Criminal Law, a distinction given to only the top 6% of attorneys in the State of Illinois. He is a respected member of the bar and a leading attorney in the family law arena. He limits his practice now solely to family law, divorce, custody, and complex property issues. <br><br> Mr. Murphy is married with four children. Borsberry is a partner with The Murphy Law Group, P.C. and is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where he received the American Jurisprudence award for appellate brief writing. Mr. Borsberry enjoys representing clients in family law and criminal law cases litigating at both trial and appellate levels, in state and as well as federal courts. He has appeared in dozens of courtrooms throughout the State of Illinois. <br><br> Joseph M. Borsberry has vast experience with criminal and divorce matters. At the DePaul University College of Law, he assisted well-known Criminal Law Professor John F. Decker with the writing and production of books on Illinois criminal law and federal criminal procedure. He also worked at a challenging externship assignment at the Cook County Public Defender's Office, where he represented defendants in jury trials, including an attempted murder trial. While in law school, he also volunteered his time for divorce clients at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services. <br><br> Mr. Borsberry earned his Bachelor's degree at Illinois State University with a major in Criminal Justice Sciences and a minor in legal Studies. At Illinois State University he was in the Honors Program, and successfully competed in national mock trial tournaments. In college, Mr. Borsberry spent a semester as a full-time intern at the Illinois Attorney General's Office handling civil litigation and consumer fraud matters. He also had the privilege of a legal studies internship with the Honorable James A. Knecht, Appellate Court Justice for the Fourth District Appellate Court. During two summers in college, Mr. Borsberry volunteered his time for the Peoria County Public Defender's Office representing incarcerated criminal defendants. <br><br> Joseph M. Borsberry concentrates his practice in criminal, juvenile, traffic and family law matters. He has been with The Murphy Law Group since 1994. During that time period, he has handled over 1,500 criminal and family law related matters for the firm. He is lead counsel for the law firm in the criminal law arena. His background in criminal defense and family law has given him great experience and skill in defending criminal cases, involving everything from a simple traffic ticket to a murder trial, as well as custody, child support, DCFS, and order of protection matters. <br><br> Mr. Borsberry has resided in Central Illinois since 1976.
